If you have had greater than 50% improvement in your symptoms of urinary urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence following a basic InterStim evaluation or an advanced InterStim evaluation, then you are a candidate for InterStim implantation.
Implantation is the procedure where we actually place the InterStim device underneath the skin overlying the buttocks.
This procedure is generally done either at the surgical center or at the hospital and is a brief outpatient procedure. It is generally done under a MAC anesthetic and patients can go home the same day with a small dressing overlying the site of surgery.
Generally, my nurse Ann will see you back in the office 1 week following the procedure to address any programing issues that you might have and I will generally see you back in the office 2 or 3 weeks following the procedure for a wound check. After that, we can program the device as needed based upon your response and your symptoms.
