I like large parties, they are so intimate. At small parties, there is not any intimacy.– The Great Gatsby
Over the past couple of months, UroPoets from around the world have posted original poems onto the Twitter hashtag #UroPoet. Recently, Lee Hugar, aka @lhugar, suggested a meetup at the upcoming American Urological Association Meeting in Chicago. A urology resident at the University of Pittsburgh, Lee thought the #AUA19 meeting might be a great opportunity for urologists with appreciation for creative writing and poetry to get together. I couldn’t agree more! The question is when and where?
The Great Gatsby Affair
As luck would have it, the Urology Care Foundation is hosting a benefit – titled “A Great Gatsby Affair” – on Friday, May 3rd, at the Untitled Supper Club. The event, which raises money for the Foundation’s research and educational activities, promises to be an exciting evening of music, dancing and gaming. The venue looks amazing!
Write your ticket
Urology residents are often notoriously poor. But with the help of the Foundation, we’ve found a way to get you in for free!
The Roaring Twenties were a decade
Of dance, prohibition, and sin
Pen a poem
About the work of Our Foundation
And we might just let you in
Urology residents are invited to write any type of poem (haiku, limerick, sonnet, etc.) about the mission of the Urology Care Foundation and post it on Twitter with both hashtags – #UroPoet and #AUA19. Multiple submissions will be accepted, and the deadline for submissions is 11:59 PM EST Wednesday, May 1st.
The top two resident submissions will each win a free ticket to the Great Gatsby Event – a $150 dollar value! First and second place attending submissions will each win a highly coveted UCF towel. Those of you who don’t want to take a chance of missing out on this event, or who are too bashful to make a submission, can purchase tickets to the event here.
Hope to see you there!
The Great Gatsby Affair is the perfect venue for a #UroPoet/#AUA19 meetup. It’s also a great opportunity to support the work of the Urology Care Foundation, dress up and have some fun. I look forward to meeting you there!
