I’m constantly looking for ways to get high quality education materials into the hands of my patients. Despite the recent explosion in digital resources, many patients are still more comfortable viewing these types of materials in traditional print format. Fortunately, as urologists, we have a fantastic, freely available, resource for our patients – the UrologyHealth extra.

The UrologyHealth extra is a quarterly, patient education magazine produced by the Urology Care Foundation. This magazine is designed to be completely patient-centered. The publication is not only aesthetically pleasing, more importantly, it’s packed full of practical information and answers to questions urology patients commonly ask.

Recently, I spent two days with the editorial staff of the UrologyHealth extra. It’s really mind-blowing how much time and effort goes into making sure this publication meets the needs of our patients.
The content in the magazine is aligned with the Foundation’s public education priorities, and each article in the publication is reviewed by a leading expert in the field of urology.
Put it in the Waiting Room
As physicians, we are all busy. Often, I have to make a conscious effort to remember to hand my patients educational materials on the way out of the office. Not uncommonly, I’ll find myself running down the hall, chasing after a patient with pamphlet in hand.
When you order the UrologyHealth extra, ask your staff to put it in the waiting room. Patients can page through it, at their leisure, before their appointment even begins.
