Welcome Dr. Ryan Nelson!
It’s been an exciting week for us at here at West Shore Urology. On Monday, Dr. Ryan Nelson, D.O., arrived in Muskegon to join Dr. Salisz, Dr. Stone and myself for a three-week rotation in community urology.
Dr. Nelson is currently in his fifth year of residency training at the Michigan State/Detroit Metro Urological Surgery Consortium. His residency program consists of two years of general surgery training followed by four years of intensive specialty training in urology.
Hitting the Ground Running at West Shore Urology
It didn’t take long for Dr. Nelson to make an impact in our office, and in our Muskegon community. On Tuesday, at the start of a busy clinic, one of our mid-level providers became suddenly ill, and had to return home. Dr. Nelson, under the supervision of Dr. Salisz, stepped in and helped out. As a result, every clinic patient was cared for, and patients did not need to be rescheduled.
Learning How We Operate
In addition to providing a supervised office experience, one of our main responsibilities is to make certain that Dr. Nelson has the opportunity to actively participate in the pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care of our patients under our supervision.
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with Dr. Nelson in the operating room – I was extremely impressed with his clinic judgment and operative skills.
Dr. Nelson has made a favorable impression with our patients as well. He has an engaging personality that helps put patients at ease. He also has the ability to explain complex medical problems in a manner patients can easily comprehend.
“I’ve enjoyed the warm-hearted welcome that I have received from the Muskegon Medical Community.” – Dr. Ryan Nelson
Outside of Urology
When he is not busy with his residency training, Dr. Nelson enjoys kite surfing, hunting, and spending time with his wife and young daughter. He has travelled and participated with medical missions in Honduras, Bolivia, and Peru.
If you get a chance, please take a moment and introduce yourself to Dr. Nelson, and join us in welcoming him to our West Michigan community.
