Telling the Bees
Recently, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Mr. John Walsh and Ms. Heidi Herrmann, from the Natural Beekeeping Trust, on a post about the wisdom of honeybees. In the post, John describes the ancient practice of talking to, or telling, the bees. It turns out, if we stop and truly listen, this activity can be more than just a one-way conversation.

Listening to Bees
As a beekeeper, one of the my favorite activities is to simply listen to the sound of bees. What I hear, when I carefully listen, is the sound of life. The humming, whirling sound of life. It is an almost mystical experience.
The Sound of the Universe
Recently, I read that NASA had reportedly recorded the sound of the Universe.
When I listen closely to this recording, I hear a sound that is remarkably similar to the sounds produced within my beehives. In my hives, I hear the sounds of purpose, hard work, sacrifice, connectedness, and oneness.
Maybe, if we stop and really listen, we will find the Universe is trying to send us a similar message.
Making a Connection
I was 18 years old the first time I ever stuck my head inside a beehive. The sound totally captured me…..filled every unfilled space in my being with contentment. It sounded to me, like a tuning fork for the Universe, a feeling of completeness. – Charlotte Anne Kassal

Maybe you have had a similar experience with bees, or would like to read more about these amazing creatures? You can learn more about what we have heard, collectively, listening to bees, in John’s post “New Mornings – Talking With Bees.”
Love this post. Just watched “Fried Green Tomatoes” again and I have to ask: Are you a bee charmer?

I listen to my bees all the time. For one thing I can normally tell if they have a queen. They sound agitated if they don’t have one.
